If you use a cheap high and low level transformer the device you connect after the transformer will sound bad.

It is an active converter (requires power and ground), which means you get a better signal to your power amplifier or active subwoofer. Cheap converters are often passive, which leads to a loss of signal level and it will not sound as good or play as loud as an active converter.
